I've lost the only key — do I have to tow to the dealer?

In most cases, no. We come to the vehicle, decode the lock or the key code, cut a new key, and program it to your immobiliser on site. Dealer-only models are a minority.

What information do you need to make a replacement?

Vehicle registration, VIN, your ID matching the registration, and the make / model / year. With those we can confirm key type and price before dispatch.

How long does it take?

Typically 45 to 90 minutes on site — decoding, cutting, programming, testing. Some smart-key models take longer because of dealer-tool dependencies.

Will the old key still work if I find it?

We can program the system to keep the old key valid or to wipe it. The default and safer option is to wipe it, so a found key by someone else doesn't start your car.

What's actually involved in a lost-key replacement

Cutting a metal key blade is the easy part. The hardware behind a modern car key is what makes it work — a transponder chip on traditional keys, or a full proximity fob on smart-key cars. The chip pairs with the immobiliser; without that pairing the engine simply won't start. The on-site process is: decode the lock or pull the key code from VIN, cut the blank, write the transponder, pair it with the immobiliser, test starts, test all door functions, hand over.

One key is one bad day away from no keys. Cutting a spare while you still have a working key is dramatically cheaper than a full lost-key replacement — the lock doesn't need decoding, the programming is a clone, and you sleep better. We offer it as a standard add-on.
